Troubleshooting Needle Breaks

1.  Replace the Needle and Check for a Z Bind.

2.  If your machine is an EMT16X (NPT) make sure the Knife was set to Home.  Go to Tools > Maintenance > Steppers and press Start Test.  If you see the knife go out and in, it is home correctly.

3.  Update your software to the most recent software version

4.  Push Laser + Up to check for a Not Feeding Thread issue.

5.  With the machine turned on. Perform a Set Table, and try a test sew to see if needles are still breaking.

6.  Troubleshoot Needle Deflection.

7.  Center your Needle Plate

  • To verify the Upper Arm Adjustment, you will need additional technical assistance. Here are the available Melco Technical Support

8.  Make sure a Thread Feed Forward 200 Test completes successfully.

9.  Try a Feeder Profile Test.

10.  Check the Thread Path.

11.  Check for any X/Y registration issue.

12.  If you’re using an EMT16 or EMT16Plus machine, check if the Screws on the Hook Gib are loose. To remove the Hook follow the steps for EMT16 and EMT16Plus.

13.  Check your Hook Adjustments, for EMT16Plus and EMT16* or for XTS and XT.

14.  Check Breaking Needles When Sewing Caps.

15.  If the situation remains unresolved, you will need additional technical assistance. Here are the available Melco Technical Support options.
