Troubleshooting Loopy Top Thread

Before troubleshooting loopy top thread, check for Runaway Acti-Feed, or check the back of your fabric for Missed Stitches making sure the bobbin is tying in correctly.

1.  Update your software to the most recent software version

2.  Check your Bobbin.

3.  Check your Presser-Foot.

4.  Check your Acti-Feed. To determine if the type of looping you are experiencing is caused by too much thread being fed, try running with a reduced Standard Acti-feed.

5.  Check the Hooping.

6.  Use a more Stable Backing.

7.  Troubleshoot the Needle.

8.  Check your Rotary Hook Support.

9.  Check your Hook Adjustments. For EMT16Plus and EMT16* or for XTS and XT

10.  Check the Digitization.

11.  Check the Thread Path.

12.  Check the Thread Cone.

13.  Verify you are using the Correct Needle Type.

14.  Make sure a Thread Feed Forward 200 Test completes successfully.

15.  Try a Feeder Profile Test.

16.  If you have an EMT16 or EMT16Plus, replace your Cutter.

17.  Replace your Rotary Hook. Replacing EMT16Plus and EMT16 Hook or Replacing XT and XTS Hook

18.  Replace the Needle Plate.

19.  If the situation remains unresolved, you will need additional technical assistance. Here are the available Melco Technical Support

  • Verify if there is Runaway Acti-feed, the Thread Break Sensor might need replacing.
