Troubleshooting Bobbin On Top

If you are seeing bobbin showing on top of your fabric, follow the steps below.

1.  Update your software to the most recent software version

2.  Check your Bobbin.

3.  Check your Presser-Foot.

4.  Check your Acti-Feed.

5.  Troubleshoot the Needle.

6.  Verify your Acti-Feed by performing the Determining Acti-feed Test.

7.  Check your Hook Adjustments. For EMT16Plus and EMT16*or for XTS and XT

8.  Check the Thread Path.

The picture above depicts the Top Thread getting caught under the cone.


9.  Check the Thread Cone.

10.  Check your Feed Adjust.

11.  Check the Backing.

12.  Check the Hooping.

13.  Verify you are using the Correct Needle Type.

14.  Check the Digitization.

15.  Make sure a Thread Feed Forward 200 Test completes successfully.

16.  Try a Feeder Profile Test, you might need additional technical assistance. Here are the available Melco Technical Support

17.  Don’t use a Needle Ease or similar threading tool, using one could be introducing Micro-burs onto your needle.

18.  Replace your Cutter. Only for EMT16 and EMT16Plus, this step is not needed for other machine types.

19.  Replace your Rotary Hook. Replacing EMT16Plus and EMT16 Hook or Replacing XT and XTS Hook

20.  Replace the Needle Plate.

21.  If the situation remains unresolved, you will need additional technical assistance. Here are the available Melco Technical Support

  • Check the Rotary Hook Support (Retaining Finger), set it to the wider end of the speck to open the gap a little more. If it is a little tight, it might cause waving bobbin columns.
  • Reflash the Firmware
  • Check the Thread Feed Assembly Alignment, this could be more likely if the machine is getting Needle Specific Bobbin on Top.
