Stripped Screws - or Missing X-Carriage M4 Insert

If you are unable to screw a Hoop Arm Thumbscrew into the X Carriage, you might have a damaged or missing M4 (Helicoil) Insert.

The picture on the left is missing its insert. In the picture on the right you can see the color difference to the insert.

If you have a damaged or missing Insert you will need one of the replacements below, depending on your machine model:

  • INSERT, M4 (M6 OUTSIDE), X-CARRIAGE PN# 33722-01   new EMT16X, Melco Bravo (X), and Bernina E16 Plus machines purchased in 2022 or more recent. Use Loctite 680 to secure the replacement insert and let it cure/harden overnight.
  • INSERT, M4, X-CARRIAGE PN# 33722 - XT, XTS, Bravo, all EMT16 and Bernina E16 machines purchased prior to 2022.  Use Loctite 680 to secure the replacement insert and let it cure/harden overnight.
  • M4 X 0.7 HELICOIL INSERT PN# 32514 - Original Amaya (BigRed) machines.  See downloadable .PDF instructions at the bottom of this article.

Do not tighten the Thumbscrews if no hoop arm is attached. Doing so could lock the Inserts into the screw's countersink and unthread them when the screw is removed.

To install the Insert, place it from the bottom and use the Thumb Screw to thread it upward.
