If you hear a screeching sound while your machine moves along the Y axis there might be damage to the Hardened Y-Drive Shaft. Before replacing any parts, confirm if the noise is produced by the shaft or if it’s produced by another Documented Sound.
- For machines covered under warranty, Contact Melco Technical Support to determine if the shaft needs replacing.
- For machines not covered under warranty, contact and hire a Certified Melco Technician to determine if the shaft needs replacing.
- Follow the steps for Y Bearing Block and Rail Lubrication.
- Remove the Hoop and Hoop Arms.
- Turn the machine OFF.
- Try slowly moving the Y Beam all the way forward, and all the way backward by hand.

5. Move the Y Beam back and forth several times to spread the oil from the previous lubrication step evenly across the beam.
6. Check if you hear the sound.
If it has been determined that the shaft needs replacing, below are the recommended replacement parts.
2x -30210-03 Block, Bearing Assembly
1x -30929 Shaft, Hardened, Y-Drive, 12 Dia X 413mm Lg
1x -30351 Bracket, Y Pulley, Needle Bearing, 12mm ID
(PN# 30351-01 for some newer EMT16X machines, SN# 412263 and higher)
1x -30934 Pulley, Timing, HTD3 X 15, Z=54, w/flanges

Loosening the Timing Pulley 30927 will allow the Timing Pulley to separate from the shaft, however it will not confirm movement of the shaft separate from movement of the Y Beam, there will still be enough friction for the parts to move together.
